Strong-voiced, rugged, and imposing. The castle’s lead hunter: loyal, dutiful, and unwavering, molded by generations of hunters before him. Takes orders without question and brings back whatever game is required. Needs gravitas and stoic physicality.

 

PRINCE

Male, 25–35

Charming, handsome, and heroic—a classic fairytale prince. He roams from castle to castle bravely searching for his true love and fighting off any evil that stands in his way. Should possess a natural charisma and ability to portray both action and romance.

 

HEAD GUARD

Male, 25–30

A youthful, conflicted head guard. Haunted by his father’s legacy, he drowns his anxiety in drink and has become the Queen’s reluctant lapdog. Seeking someone who can balance vulnerability with the bravado of a castle's chief protector.

 

COOK

Female, 50–70

A seasoned, outspoken castle cook, busy and bustling, who has witnessed the castle’s transformation under an evil queen. She makes many apple dishes to placate the queen, and she is a well of gossip and secrets. Requires strong character presence and comedic timing.

 

OLD MAN (to play six roles)

Male, 50–65

A versatile character actor to voice multiple distinct, short-statured men—each with a big personality—who encountered the princess during her spellbound sleep. Must have strong vocal range and comedic timing.

 

MIRROR

Male, 35–45

A talking mirror-man: stoic, enigmatic, always speaking in rhyme. Holds secrets of his own beneath a calm exterior. Actor should have strong diction, a knack for rhyming, and an ability to infuse subtle emotion.

 

BLUE BIRD

Female, 20–25

A sweet, high-pitched singing bird who keeps the princess company and spies on her captors. Needs exceptional singing voice and the ability to convey lightness and hopefulness through voice alone.

PRINCESS

Female, 20–25

A kind and gentle princess with a graceful, soothing (almost birdlike) singing voice. Starts as an innocent young royalty, but must convey growing strength upon the revelation she will inherit the kingdom. Must sing beautifully and act vulnerably yet regally.

 

AGENT UNICORN

Female, 30–40

A worldly, pragmatic agent called in when magical objects are discovered. She’s skilled, no-nonsense, and operates with efficiency and a touch of mystique. Needs to project authority and subtle magical whimsy.
